Argentina Headed for Copa America 2015 Glory

Remember how Argentina lost by 1-0 in the last World cup to Germany? Argentina supporters mourned for days, for they believed that they deserved better. It is nice to know that the Argentina players took that blow as an inspiration and now are determined to secure their first major title in 22 years in Copa America history.

Today’s match with Paraguay showed a glint of that determination. Every Argentina player shone today with their talent and conviction, especially Lionel Messi. No wonder Argentina crushed Paraguay and is now marching towards the title of the continental champion of South America.

Argentina won against Paraguay by 6-1 in the Copa America 2015 semi finals. They will be facing Chile in the finals, which will be held on July 4, at 17:00 of local time.

Every Argentina footballer played and equal part in destroying Paraguay. But Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi surpassed everyone in the aspect of creativity and passion. Although he did not score a single goal himself, he was the magician who pulled the string behind all the other goals.

Out of the six super goals, Angel Di Maria scored two. The other four goals were scored by Marcos Rojo, Javier Pastore, Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain.

Manchester United’s defender Rojo and Paris Saint-Germain’s Pastore gave Argentina an early lead of 2-0 halfway through the first half. But before long, Paraguay repaid that goal through Lucas Barrios.

Maybe Paraguay hoped that they would be able to pull through. After all, they did it in the group phase and managed to draw by 2-2. But all hopes were crushed when Angel Di Maria scored two back to back goals within six minutes early in the second half.

In the 80th minute, Manchester City striker Sergei Aguero headed a goal and joined the score sheet. Substitute Higuain joined the score sheet right after coming on and made the difference 6-1. That was the last nail in the Paraguayans’ coffin.

Despite the glorious result, Argentina could have done better in the match. They could have doubled their lead when Messi dashed through Paraguay’s defence and passed the ball to Pastore. But Pastore took too long to take the shot, allowing Paraguayan defender Victor Caceres to slide in and block the shot.

But Pastore did not have to wait long to make up for the missed opportunity because little Maradona provided him with another opportunity just six minutes later.

Paraguay was off to a disastrous start because their striker Roque Santa Cruz had to limp out of the game and be replaced by Barrios. However, despite of the fact Paraguay was doing okay till Di Maria made the difference 4-1 in the second half.

In the 47th minute, Di Maria put the favourites 3-1 up with the assistance of Pastore. In the 57th minute, Messi set up a goal for Pastore, which was blocked by Paraguayan Goal-keeper Justo Villar, only to be scored by Di Maria.

In the 68th minute, little Maradona mesmerized the football world by dashing past 3 Paraguayan defender, but luck got the best of him and his finish was blocked.

In the 80th minute, Sergei Aguero scored his only goal of the match and was followed by Higuain on the 83rd minute, not to mention with another excellent assist by Messi.

Lionel Messi was declared Man of the match for his splendid support.

Now the football world is excitedly waiting for the showdown with Chile. Let’s see what happens in the final of Copa America 2015.
