Ben Affleck, 42, and Jennifer Garner, 43, have announced their divorce, but request privacy for their children. The couple made the statement in public a day before their 10th wedding anniversary on Monday, June 29. Both admitted that they have evaluated the consequences of this decision, but maintained that this matter is “private and a family matter.”
Despite being divorced, Affleck and Garner decided to continue loving each other as friends and pledge to co-parenting their kids. Both have only nice words for each other.
Talks about the 10-year marriage of the couple have caused mild disapproval in the past.
Ben Affleck expressed his gratitude to Garner when he accepted his Best Picture Oscar award for the movie Argo in 2013. (Garner was sitting in the audience.) Affleck said, “I want to thank my wife for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases. It is work but the best kind of work and there is no one I would rather work with.”
The couple admitted that the acceptance speech was “not-so-romantic” after a few months and laugh at it during the opening monologue of Affleck on Saturday Night Live.
Calling Garner on stage, Affleck requested her to clarify what “our marriage was work” means.
Explaining the acceptance speech of her husband, Garner said that it is the term they use when talking about their marriage in private. It indicates their commitment to their marriage. She added, however, why Affleck had shared it in front of so many people. Garner readily quipped that she considered their marriage a gift!
In a recent chat with Savannah Guthrie of Today’s in March, the over emotional Garner began to cry suddenly upon seeing an article about her with her mother and sisters. (The article was published in Southern Living.) She explained that her tears was for Patricia, her mother and was quoted saying “feeling under the weather.”
A peep into their family life was shown by Garner during the Santa Monica event in May. It showed how she takes responsibility in raising and taking care of their three children. Garner said every family needs a designated enforcer, when asked by PEOPLE about it. She confessed that she is the designated enforcer in their family. She bemoaned later that the bulk of such responsibility rests on every woman’s shoulder. She stressed that the burden lies on every woman.
Affleck and Garner met on the set of “Pearl Harbor” in 2001. They were together again in “Daredevil” in 2003. The couple got engaged in April 2005 and two months later got married in a private ceremony. Garner was four months pregnant with, Violet, their eldest daughter. They have two more kids, namely Seraphina and Samuel, aged 6 and 3, respectively.
