The Jarheads have done it again! Well, to be more precise it is not the Jarheads aka Jared Padalecki fans only who did the magic here, it’s the entire Supernatural fan base present at Comic-Con 2015 in San Diego who gave their Sammy Winchester a real moral boost against his Anti-Depression Battle according to a report in the Inquisitor. 6500 fans of SPN fans lit tea lights that said “Always Keep Fighting” and lifted those up in the air in unison to show their love and support to Jared.
Jared Padalecki was sitting next to his co-stars Jensen Ackles (Playing Dean Winchester), Misha Collins (Playing Castiel) and Mark Sheppard (Playing Crowley) when it happened. This 32-year old actor mistook the tea lights as the camera lights of mobile phones at first, but when given a light to him he realized what was actually happening.
Later he wrote in his Facebook to thank his devoted fans. “Sitting on that stage in Hall H, I initially mistook all of the lights for cell phone cameras. It’s difficult to discern specific shapes and faces with all of those stage lights shining on you (and, it’s quite intimidating up there, sitting in front of 6,500 people!!). “ Jared wrote, “Then, when I had a light given to me with an explanation of what it was and what it stood for, I was (and am still) gobsmacked.”
He was so moved that he even lit a candle himself later on and posted on his profile to show his unity with his fans. He did not forget to mention how moved he was by saying, “As I travel back to Vancouver from San Diego … the enormity of what happened is finally starting to sink in,” He also wrote, “I am beyond moved. I feel so blessed, and grateful, and honored to be a part of the magical Supernatural Family.”
Even though Jared has been suffering from clinical depression for years now, only recently he admitted it in public. During the shooting of Supernatural season three this problem turned acute. He said in his earlier interview with Variety, “A doctor came to set and talked to me for about 30 minutes or 45 minutes and said: ‘Jared, I think you’re clinically depressed. I think I should write you a note and we can shut down production for five days and then we can take it from there.’ And it kind of hit me like a sack of bricks”.
Since then he has been fighting against depression on and off. And now this extremely favourite show is on the verge of airing its season 11. So, there is no wonder that he is getting all the support he needs from his fans.
Not only the fans but also the stars were moved by this tea lights lifting gesture for Jared Padalecki. Willam Shatner, the “Star Trek” star, wrote to Jared that he was sorry not to be there but he was lighting his light then to show his unity with the cause. Jared thanked him in return and told him how touched he was. Hopefully, this event would have an impact strong enough on his mind to show him the rays of light whenever he feels low from now on.
