With the recent news of fan-favorite Darren Sproles going down for the year with both a torn ACL and broken wrist, will Kenjon Barner make a return. The Birds sit atop of the division with a nail-biting win over the Gmen and could definitely use his explosiveness. Barner was a pretty good in his limited role playing for the Birds. He’s the closest thing to Sproles that’s on the streets right now.
With Sproles being down, a reliable punt returner becomes a must. Torrey Smith is not really a punt returner and although Agholor returned punts at USC, he’s not someone who can be trusted when it comes to catching the ball. Agholor has had a better year, but I’m not sure if he’s trustworthy enough to return punts for a playoff caliber team.
Barner is very good in the return game, fairly young(28 years old) and can both run and catch out of the backfield. Also, he’s already familiar with the organization, albeit with a different coaching staff. He’s such a logical choice that I look for him to be an Eagle by the end of the week.
He could get a chance to go against the last team that cut him this week when we face the Chargers…
